Parents’ Guide to Turkey’s Social Media Age Limit of 15: What to Do
Turkey’s social media age limit of 15 starts on 1 November 2026. For families the question is: what should we do now? This guide covers the parts of the law and regulation that concern parents and a practical checklist.
Know the dates first
- 1 November 2026: The regulation takes effect; under-15s cannot open new accounts.
- 31 March 2027: Deadline for age verification of existing accounts.
Use the age limit calculator to see which group your child falls into.
Which tools does the law give parents?
Under the law, social network providers must offer clear, easy-to-use parental controls. These cover account settings, putting purchases and paid memberships under parental approval, and monitoring and limiting usage time. Providers must also take measures against deceptive advertising.
Preparation checklist
- Note the dates. Write down your child’s date of birth and 15th birthday.
- Review accounts. List the platforms your child uses together.
- Follow announcements. How platforms will ask for verification is not yet clear.
- Wait for e-Devlet. The verification token comes from e-Devlet. See the e-Devlet age verification guide.
- Talk with your child. Plan together for the possibility that an account is closed and how to keep their content.
What is not yet clear
The launch date of the e-Devlet service and the detailed process platforms will apply to existing accounts. We will update this guide as it becomes clear.
