Maternity Leave After an Early Birth in Turkey: How Is It Calculated?
If the baby is born before the expected date your leave is not shortened. Pre-birth days you could not use are added to leave after birth.
The rule
Under the law, if a female employee gives birth early, the pre-birth periods she could not use are added to the periods after birth.
How is it calculated?
- Days used: Count the days from the start of leave to birth.
- Days unused: Subtract that number from 56 days (70 for multiple pregnancy).
- Leave after birth: Add the unused days to 112 days.
Example
Due date 15 January 2027 and leave starting on 20 November 2026. If the baby is born on 25 December 2026, 35 days were used and the remaining 21 are added after birth. Leave after birth becomes 133 days and still ends on 6 May 2027.
